Egyptian maths

Giousouf has taught us all something about Egyptian maths.  His very interesting workbook shows the fascinating differences between English and Eyptian numerals, and of course you read the book the opposite way round!  Thanks for sharing, Giousouf!

Sunflowers

 
These beautiful sunflowers have been first drawn, and then painted, so carefully.  Giousouf, Lorrimer and Dovydas are rightfully proud of their detailed work and the artistic choices thy made in their work.  Well done chaps!

Time to reflect

The problem was to find how many times on an analogue clock could be reflected and still be a real time.  There are two ways to tackle this - randomly picking times and checking with a mirror or, as Kellen, Jack and Aoife did, using a systematic method of finding all 96.  Well done to all three of you!

Great graphs!

These two not only understand all about graphs, they can answer really detailed questions that involve knowing about time and decimals.  This is wonderful work, Lucas and Izzie!

Check, check & check again!

This gentleman knows that when you do a test you do not waste a moment of the time you have.  Miss Leftley was very impressed by the way Thomas checked and checked and checked again every answer he had given in each of his maths assessments.  A great work principle - well done you!

The Owly Echo

Meet some of the reporters from The Owly Echo.  Owls class assembly last week was original, informative, entertaining and much appreciated by all of the audience.  Jack, Sam, Chloe, Charlee, Joe and Kellen went 'above and beyond' when it came to organisation and delivery and their extra work was a great help to their peers.  Brilliant effort from you all!

Poor Nessie!

Enzo and Imogen have each made up a very sad story about poor Nessie, but don't worry - they have a happy ending.  They have chosen some really clever adjectives to make their writing really interesting.  What grown-up pieces of work!

Bi-lingual

It just so happened that some of the Kingfishers' work had Chinese writing on it, So Rachel translated it before answering the questions!  We are very impressed with how fluent you are, Rachel - two lots of learning in one!

To the rescue!

What exciting adventures!  Archie, Coco, Caitlin and Willow each chose a superhero and a villain, and wrote a detailed story about how the hero saved the day.  They chose their vocabulary carefully to make their writing really exciting - I was on the edge of my seat!

I spy with my little eye ...

Belle, Megan, Maisie, Immy, Oliver, Charlie and Lexi have been looking VERY carefully at minibeasts as you can see from these beautiful pictures with magnifying glass frames.  Ingenious pieces of work and superbly presented.  Very effective!

Beautiful divas

These children have been learning all about divas - with Sacchidn as their teacher!  Sacchidn, Harry, Victoria and Veronika can all tell you about how these pots are using for burning oil, and they are very proud of the decorations they have painted.  Super work, folks!

Grid multiplication

Callum has been learning how to use the grid method for multiplication, and now he is an expert at it!  He can explain what he has done very clearly and is calculating using bigger and bigger numbers.  Maths genius!

Poplet

Lauren and Aidan have been learning all about the Tudors and have shown loads of facts about Elizabeth I using Poplet on the iPads.  They know how to link pictures and text boxes so that the information is easy to follow.  Great work, folks!

Loch Ness Monster

 The two ladies have been describing the Loch Ness Monster - and what a lot of fabulous adjectives they have used!  Jasmine and Emily can tell you all about adjectives and what they are used for, and their labels explain exactly what the monster looks like.  Well done, people!

Dear Little Mix ...

Lexi has written a HUGE letter to Little Mix to ask about their favourite books and stories.  She included lots of detail and wrote far more than most of her classmates.  Fingers crossed they write back soon!

Musical keys!

Finley is our latest computing genius - with a musical twist!  Firstly, he was the quickest one to play a tune he had heard on YouTube, and then he was the only one to find out how to change the instrument that was playing the tune.  A real cross-curricular superstar!

Hard work pays off

We are most impressed with Amelie's maths scores.  In March she achieved 77 out of 110, but with hard work and lots of determination, she is now scoring a massive 97!  Super achievement, Amelie - well done you!

Birds of beauty

These beautiful works of art show an absolute determination to succeed.  Thomas, Kellen, Bradley and Blythe understood that they needed to pay close attention to detail and did so, taking their time, reviewing their work, and improving it as they went along.  Masterpieces!  Well done, folks!

Ringsfield Star!

The staff can't say enough positive things about Joshua's behaviour during the residential at Ringsfield Hall.  He was polite to adults and staff, kind and thoughtful, enthusiastic and engaged, and a really good friend to other children.  This is great news, Joshua!

You can't catch him out!

Here's a gentleman who has worked very hard to make sure he does really well in his times tables test each week.  He almost always gets them all correct - and there is no catching him out when you ask him random tables questions.  Most impressive, Harry!

More battling at Bosworth

You would certainly have wanted Ellis and Lucas on your side at the Tudor battle.  These recounts describe them as brave and noble soldiers, and the use of wow words really helps to create atmosphere and tension.  Super writing, lads!

... and the mouse looked good.

That poor little mouse!  After having the Gruffalo wanting to eat him, Leo, Achchira, Emiah and William have described some more animals and monsters who want to gobble up the mouse in the deep, dark wood.  They have used some great adjectives to describe these creatures - what very grown-up writing!

Swimming like a fish

Enzo has been working really hard in the swimming pool and has this fabulous certificate to prove it.  He is now working for his Stage 2 badge.  Soon he will be able to swim all the way across Diss Mere, except he is worried that the alligators might nibble his toes!  Well done, superstar!

Best behaviour

Mrs Clarke is so pleased with Leo because he has had such a super-duper day!  He has worked hard and behaved beautifully - and they love having him in Hedgehogs.  Well done, Leo!

Maths maestro!

 Well, here is a mathematical genius if ever we met one!  Jack has used some amazing reasoning and calculation skills to work out multi-step word problems, and he was the only one who got the answer.  Well done, brainbox!

Pirate story

Joshua has been writing amazing stories and we are all so pleased with everything he can do.  Not only can he write a story all by himself, but he can talk about everything that happened.  Clever man!

Twists and turns!

These gentlemen were given a very exciting story beginning and had to write an exciting story middle and story ending.  Reuben and Harry have come up with some really original ideas to create a riveting tale that will keep you gripped until the very end.  Super work, lads!

The book covers that Olivia, Lewis, Tommy and Joshua have designed and drawn are so detailed that it is easy to guess the story they have heard.  What a lot of information they have fitted into one picture!  Well done, folks!

Angles All Around

What a lot Max, Lexi, Elsa and Sammy know about angles!  These posters will teach you about different angles, all about degrees, protractors ... you have clearly worked hard and learned a lot.  Great effort!

The Beetles!

James has been practising using a very clever story-telling technique.  He has recorded a whole story in a few words and pictures and can now tell you all about the beetles' rain dance in great detail and using lots of descriptive phrases.  What a fabulous piece of work, James!

Down the Amazon

Holly has been on a journey down the Amazon and as written all about the river dolphin she saw there!  She has listened so carefully for the phonemes in the words she wanted to write and has included some really interesting facts.  Great writing, missus!

Avalanche!


What a lot I didn't know about avalanches!  Ellis and Myah have created fact files to explain what they are, what to do if you are caught in one, and how to escape.  Sensible advice carefully and clearly presented - well done, folks!

What mature and informative pieces of writing these folks have produced.  Sam, Alfie, Kevin, Sophie, Aimee, Sammy, Tiegan, Nicole, Evie, Lysander, Jack, Riley, Freddie and Daniel have written up their interviews with their grandparents including a huge amount of detail and information about life in the 50s and 60s.  What a lot we have all learned.  Super effort!

I spy with my little eye

George and Ruby have been doing some amazing sounding out.  The birds in the picture can see New York landmarks, and these folks have listened carefully for the phonemes they needed to write their names.  Well done, you two!

One less

These three ladies have been using Numicon to help them work out 'one less' calculations.  Luna, Roxy and Bella have drawn the number they started with, crossed one out, and then counted how many were left.  Great number sentences to record what you had done!

Empire counting!


Not only has Zac cut out these Numicon windows really carefully, he can tell you that this picture of the Empire State Building has ten windows.  What a clever chap!
